Quick hits on why they got cut:
- Parnell- needs to work on his off-speed pitches
- Figueroa- was expendable with Takahashi throwing well and seizing the long relief role.
- Will be interesting to see if Figgy does follow through and go play in Japan
- Calero- Joined the Mets late in spring training; he still may need some time to build up arm strength
- Topping out at 88 mph, and is just throwing slider after slider.
- Dessens- never really considered for the team
- Carter- hardest cut of the camp, as he did everything they asked (hit .393 and four home runs).
- Would've loved the Mets to have kept him over Jacobs
- Adams- had a chance after the injury to Reyes, but the emergence of R Tejada limited his opportunities
So the bullpen currently looks like this: Francisco Rodriquez, Pedro Feliciano, Ryota Igarashi, Hisanori Takahashi, Fernando Nieve, Sean Green and Jennry Mejia.
The only other pitcher still in camp is Raul Valdez, a lefty that has impressed during his small sample size, but I don't think it will be enough, especially after Jerry Manuel said the other day he wants two lefties and five righties in the 'pen.
Position Players:
It looks like Ruben Tejada and Frank Catalanotto grabbed the two last spots on the bench.
This may be the worst offensive bench in the majors:
R Tejada/A Cora
G Matthews Jr
F Catalanotto
H Blanco
F Tatis
EW. But at least we have good character guys on the bench...
