Mets (2-2) vs Nationals (1-3). Oliver Perez (LHP) vs John Lannan (LHP)
Here is the line-up facing the Long Island (Long Beach), and Chaminade High School alum, John Lannan
Jose Reyes, ss
Alex Cora, 2b
David Wright, 3b
Jason Bay, lf
Jeff Francouer, rf
Gary Matthews Jr., cf
Fernando Tatis, 1b
Henry Blanco, c
Oliver Perez, lhp
Here is the scouting report on Lannan: Young pitcher that throws strikes, and is a ground ball pitcher (60% GB). Throws from a 3/4 delivery and features a 87-88 mph with a natural tailing action, short-breaking slider and a big-looping curveball, while mixing in a change-up that fades away from righties. Doesn't have swing and miss stuff (3.88k/9 last year, which is one of the worst ratios in baseball); upside is a #4 or 5 starter on a good team. He has had prior success versus the Mets (CG and a shutout vs the Mets last year). Ranks #6 in the Nationals organization of talent under 25 years old.
Prediction: Mets win 6-4. Oliver Perez better go 5 innings, because the Mets have no long guy in the bullpen, with Takahashi and Nieve pitching in each of the last 3 days. Will Mejia be asked to pitch in back to back games? Sean Green better not have to pitch more than one inning...
LET'S GO METS!
