Randy Wells is a former catcher, who was a rule 5 draft pick by the Blue Jays, but he was eventually returned back to the Cubs. He had a surprisingly good year last year, with a 3.05 ERA. However, that was a very lucky ERA, as he stranded more runners on base than average and doesn't strike out many guys (5.7 K/9; league average is 7). He should regress this year, and have an ERA over 4.00. So he is a league average/#4 starter, not the ace that he looked like last year, but still a serviceable starter.
He features a low-90s fastball, a slider and change-up, while having good control (2.5 W/9).
