Scouting Report on Rockies starting pitcher tonight, Aaron Cook.
31 year old veteran that uses a very repeatable, high 3/4s arm action. Throws his heavy, sinking fastball 89-91 mph and throws it 90% of the time. Occasionally will throw a cutter away from a right-handed hitter, and also may spot a curve ball early in the count. That heavy sinker makes him a ground ball machine (65-68% GB over the past three years). He pitches to contact (had the lowest strikeout rate in baseball in 2007), and doesn't walk many hitters (47 walks in 158 innings last year).
In his 1st start this year, he went 5 1/3, 7 hits, 5 runs, 1 walk.
Jon Niese will be opposing him, and for his scouting report, click here (Jon Niese).
