He threw 7 shutout innings to get the win in his first outing, allowing only one hit and two walks (one IBB).
The 29-year old lefty has a power arm (2nd hardest throwing lefty in MLB last year), which can consistently hit 95-96 mph. Also throws a low 90s cutter and a slider. Struck out over a batter an inning last year (193 k's in 184 innings), and really seemed to harness his control last year with his best walk/9 rate in his career (still high though at 4 W/9).
Former Red Sox GM Dan Duquette once called De La Rosa, "the Mexican John Rocker."
