Countdown to Opening Day. Home Opener 2007

2007: Took off from Professional PT (only 2nd full week of work), went and pre-gamed at Rory’s apt w/Tom (and of course watched the 1986 Team to Remember DVD). Game was freezing and relatively quiet until the 6th inning when Willie Randolph made Burgos pitch to R Howard instead of walking him or bringing in Pedro Feliciano (lefty specialist), who had his hand on the bullpen door expecting to come in the game. Mets responded with 7 runs in the 8th, highlighted by a Jimmy Rollins error, and he was therefore serenaded for 8 straight batters w/”ROLLINS, ROLLINS….JIMMY ROLLINS” The inning was capped off with a David Wright double with the bases loaded off the left field wall. Adventure after the game trying to get on the subway, but finally got on and went to Saints and Sinners where we met up w/Tom and Aiden. We stayed there for 5+ hours or so, and only saw one bar room brawl. Mets won 11-5.

  1. "gangsta" Manuel was on the fan today with Mike. Very interesting interview. The most interesting part was him saying that he has not found an 8th inning guy yet and it will be by committee. He also said that he was happy with the team and that he was comfortable with the starting pitching staff as is. Let's hope so because as Mike told him, Met fans are upset and if they don't play well, they will turn on the team opening day.
