Mets- Astros Game today

I'm watching the game today on SNY, and will just hit on a couple highlights

  • Johan threw a lot of pitches in the 1st inning, and allowed 4 straight hits, starting with a Kaz Matsui HR. He also labored in the 2nd inning, but competed and tried to fight through to finish the 2nd, but he couldn't do it. 1 2/3 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk, 1 k; left the game with 2 runners on, but Egbert stranded them to prevent any further damage.
    • He had a couple very good change-ups in the 1st inning, but then looked like he was fatigued and started leaving pitches up in the zone and they got hammered
    • SNY didn't have the radar gun on the telecast, but Ron Darling was saying he was hitting 90 mph.
  • David Wright hit a 3-2 fastball right down the middle from Brett Myers for a 2 run HR. He definitely "muscled" it, as there wasn't much/if any wind.

I didn't see much of the 2nd half of the game, so I missed the mammoth HR by Ike Davis to straight away centerfield. It carried a supposed 454 feet. I will post video once I see it.

As I've said before, I don't think Ike Davis will make the opening day roster, but if he continues to hit over .500 as he is this spring (I know it's a tiny sample size), the Mets won't have much of a choice.

    1. I am not worried about Johan. He is still Johan Santana and as long as he is ready for opening day and says he feels good, I am sure he will be just fine.

Spring training is spring training. I know he is coming off surgery and that is always a concern, but it seems like he had velocity and his changeup. Location will come with time. Besides, if we can't rely on Johan, who can we?

    2. I agree; I'm not worried about Johan. The most important thing is his health. I'm happy he got through 40+ pitches without an issue.
