Position by Position Breakdown of 40 man roster- Daniel Murphy
Daniel Murphy - # 28
25 years old
6'3" 210 pounds
3rd major league season
Bats L/Throws R
The Good: Short, balanced swing. Selective approach, and lets the ball travel deep in the zone and takes it the other way. Projects to a 15-18 HR hitter with more experience. Proved to be an above average fielding 1st baseman last year, and was very aggressive. Known as a work-aholic. Hit .282/.313/.485 in the 2nd half of the year.
The Bad: Doesn't have as much power as a prototypical 1st baseman. Doesn't walk very often (only had a .313 on base % for the year). Was a disaster when trying to play left field last year.
Role: Projected starter/platoon with F Tatis.
My projections: 125 games, 450 at bats, 14 HRs, 67 rbis, .278 b.a./.335 OBP/.450 Slug %.
As a reference, the average MLB 1st baseman slash stats last year were: .276/.362/.483
