Bats R/Throws R
The Good: He's a knuckleballer who threw 174 innings last year for the Mets, and had a 2.84 ERA. He had a 2.23 ERA in AAA last year for Buffalo in over 60 innings before joining the Mets. Throws an 84 mph fastball 15% of the time, and he has been working on a 3rd knuckleball so they will vary in speed from 54, to 64, to 74 mph (10+ mph harder than most knuckleballs). His walk rate was incredible: 2.17 W/9, 13th best in the majors. To compare him to Wakefield, he has a career walk rate of 3.4W/9. He posted the best ground ball rate of his career, 55%, and minimized home runs, especially at Citi Field, which resulted in a 1.99 ERA there. He was signed to a 2-year, 7.5 million dollar contract this off-season, with a team option for a 3rd year.
The Bad: He's a knuckleballer. He turned into primarily a knuckleball pitcher in 2005. His lowest ERA prior to 2010 was 2009 with the Twins where he was mainly a reliever, appearing in 35 games and had a 4.62 ERA. He was born without an Ulnar Collateral Ligament (the ligament replaced in Tommy John Surgery).
Role: He went from an after-thought signing last off-season, to this year being a main cog in the rotation. But he has stayed grounded, still occasionally riding his bike to spring training. He's a great story and everyone is rooting for him to have continued success.Video: This is taken from behind home plate, and the last pitch is the slowest of the knuckleballs.

3rd base view:
He was the most fun I had watching a pitcher throw a bullpen during all of spring training, as it is such an unusual sight.
Role: 35 starts, 14-10, 220 innings (would be top 15 in baseball), 3.50 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 120 Ks, 45 Walks.
